-
Please refrain from posting or uploading any content that contains the following:
- profanity
- mature/adult imagery or text
- flames, insults, intentionally rude or inflammatory commentary
- pirated/copyrighted material that you do not have the rights to post
- slanderous remarks about others, including talent and/or other users
- spam, including advertisements, gibberish, or multiple instances of the same post
- Where can I read the Terms of Service?
- A link to the Terms of Service can be found in the footer of any NBC page, or by clicking here.
- How do I create an account?
- Go to the homepage of any NBC community and click "sign up" to register. You'll be asked for some basic information and asked to verify your email address. Once your email has been confirmed, you can customize your profile by adding photos, modules and other information about yourself.
- If I want to be a member of several NBC Communities, do I have to make multiple accounts?
- No! We've built our application to allow you to use your NBC login across all of our different sites. We would suggest starting by signing up and creating a profile on our main community site myNBC as your primary account. Go to my.nbc.com to sign up for a myNBC account.
- I'm 12 years old... can I join an NBC community?
-
Unfortunately, NBC Communities require all users to be 13 years or older in accordance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
NBC takes kids' safety seriously. To read more about COPPA, click here.
- When I sign up for an NBC community, how do I verify my email address?
-
Once you sign up, a message containing a confirmation link will be sent to the email address you gave us during registration. When you receive this message, click on the link and your email address will be automatically verified and you can login.
If you don't see the email verification in your inbox, check your spam/junk folder. Sometimes the little electronic postman gets confused and accidentally delivers our emails there. If this happens, be sure to add us to your "Safe Senders" list.
- What if I have an account but can't log into it?
-
The email address you provided during registration and confirmed is your login ID. You must log in using your email address. Also, please remember that your password is case sensitive. If you've forgotten your password, click the "Forgot Password" link on the login page.
If you're sure you've got the correct login details and are still experiencing trouble, click "Help" and a member of our tech support team will contact you shortly.
- What if I forget my password?
- If you forgot your password, click "Forgot Password" on the login screen and enter your email address. Your password will be reset and a new one will be emailed to you at the address you provided during registration.
- What if I forget my username?
- No worries. You no longer need your username to log in. Once you log in using your email address, click "Account Settings" to find and/or change your current username.
- What if I forget my email address?
- Click the "Forgot Email" link on the login page and enter your username and password. If correct, the page will display the email you provided during registration. Use this email and your password to log in.
- How do I change my email address?
- Click "Account Settings" to change your email address. A new email verification request will be sent to your email. You must complete this verification before using your new address to log in.
- How do I change my password?
- Click "Account Settings" to change your password. You must confirm your existing password, then enter a new password and re-type the new password to confirm. Once you save your account settings, you must log in using your new password.
- My email address is already being used, even though I haven't registered on this site before. What can I do?
- Oof, with all this new web 2.0 stuff, there are a lot of passwords and logins to remember. Perhaps you registered in the past and have simply forgotten? Maybe you registered for another NBC community? It's ok. We totally understand. Click "Forgot Password" to have your password reset and sent to your email. Once the new password arrives, try logging in with your email address/password to view your account.
- How do I change my personal information?
-
You can edit your personal information by click "Account Settings" and updating the information stored there. If you edit your account settings on any NBC site, the changes will be reflected to your account.
However, your profiles are a different story. One of the neat things about NBC Communities is that you have unique profile pages for every community you join. If you edit your myNBC profile, those changes won't affect your Dunder Mifflin Infinity profile, so you'll need to edit each one independently. If you'd like to edit your profile, click "Edit" in the "myPROFILE" section of the navigation to update your modules and profile information.
- How do I delete my account?
- We're working to improve the flexibility of the site to give you more control over your account. In the meantime, please click the "Feedback" link to contact us.
- How can I sign up for Studio Pass or other newsletters?
- You can sign up for newsletters or mobile alerts by clicking "Account Settings" and updating your opt-in information.

User Behavior and Moderation
- How do I report a user who's being inappropriate?
- We want everyone to feel welcome on NBC Communities. If another user is making you feel uncomfortable, you can report them by clicking the "Flag this member" link under the user's avatar on his/her profile page. Clicking this link will send a note to our administrators who will investigate the user and take the appropriate action if necessary.
- Where can I read the general rules of the message board?
- We're so glad you asked! In most forums, a rules thread is always pinned at the top. It's a good idea to check these posts before you engage a specific forum, just so you know you don't make a rookie mistake. To read up on the general etiquette of our forums, click here.
- What do I do if I see inappropriate blog entries, comments or photos?
- You can report any inappropriate blog entries and comments by clicking the "Flag it" link in the particular module. Clicking this link will send a note to our administrators who will investigate the content and take appropriate action if necessary.
- Is there a way to block users from contacting me?
- Sure is. You know what they say more posts, more problems. If someone's giving you trouble, you can block any user by clicking the "Block this member" link under the user's avatar on his/her profile page. You will no longer receive messages or comments from users that have been blocked.
- When is the video I uploaded going to be posted so my contacts can see it?
- All video submissions must be approved by our administrators to prevent the uploading of inappropriate content. You understand. The Internet can be a strange place sometimes. We make every effort to approve submissions as soon as possible, but the volume of requests can sometimes cause delays of several hours. Please be patient and try back again shortly to see if your content has been approved.
- Why did my video get rejected?
- To prevent the uploading of inappropriate content, our administrators must screen all videos. If your video was rejected, it was determined to have been contrary to the Terms of Use for user-submitted video content. Please see the Terms of Service for more information.
- Why did a photo that I uploaded get removed?
- As they do with video, our administrators review photo submissions for inappropriate content and will remove photos as necessary. It is also possible that your photo was flagged as inappropriate by other members, which could have caused its removal.
Video Tips
- Getting Started
-
- First, to make a video, you're going to need a camera. There are several types of cameras that will work for shooting web videos, including webcams, point-and-shoot digital cameras, camera phones and traditional and/or digital video cameras.
- Every camera is different and you should consult your owner's manual for the details on how your particular model works.
- Some phones with cameras only shoot still photographs. Make sure you read the manual or contact your service provider to find out the capabilities of your phone.
- If you own an older camcorder, check to see that it has a digital output. If it does, you'll be able to get a cord that can connect the camera to your computer.
- Shooting the Video
-
- Once you've consulted your camera's manual and figured out how to get it to record video, set up the shot. Make sure you take into consideration the lighting and background.
- For webcams, you're going to be confined to the area around your computer. However, with other cameras you can shoot your video wherever you'd like. Regardless of where you shoot the video, keep in mind that you want good lighting and framing.
- If you're shooting a video indoors, try placing a lamp next to you, just out of the frame, to light your face. Avoid shooting under florescent lights, they will make your beautiful face look drab and pale.
- Plan your shot so that everything you want to be in the frame is in the frame. A tripod will probably help (they sell little ones for webcams and digital cameras), but be sure to check the framing of the shot before you start filming.
- Keep your video to less than 30 seconds. This is important for two reasons: one, uncompressed video files are generally very large and depending on your camera, more than 30 seconds may exceed the digital storage you have, and two, we have a 100 MB upload cap for each video.
- Getting the Video Off Your Camera
-
- Like we said before, every camera is different. However, except for traditional video cameras, they will all save your video as a digital file. Some common file types for video are MPEG (.mpg), QuickTime (.mov), AVI (.avi), Windows Media (.wmv), Flash Video (.flv) and Real Media (.rm). Your video must be in one of those formats in order to be uploaded to NBC.com.
- If your camera records in a format not listed above, try a Google search for a program that will convert your file type to one of the acceptable formats listed above. An example search might be "Convert [enter your file extension here] to AVI."
- For Webcams: Most webcams will save video directly to your hard drive. You can use your webcam's software to designate a save destination for the video file. Remember what file you select so that you can locate it on your hard drive.
- For Point-and-Shoot Digital Cameras: Connect the cable from your camera to your computer. Your computer should recognize the camera and allow you explore the camera's memory. Find the video file and drag it to your desktop.
- For Video Cameras: Connect the cable from the digital output on your camera to your computer. Consult your manual for specific instructions. For digital video cameras, you should be able to explore the camera's memory and drag the file to your desktop from there. For older, traditional video cameras, you may have to get software that will allow you to capture the video (via the cord) on to your desktop.
- For Camera Phones: In general, you should be able to get video off your phone in two ways: by using a cord that connects to your computer or by emailing yourself the video directly from your phone. If you're using a cord, you should be able to explore your phone's memory just like you would with a digital camera. If you're emailing yourself the photo, there may be an option right when you shoot/save the video to email it. You can also try composing a new message and attaching the video by browsing your phone's hard drive.
- Uploading the Video
-
- Once you have the video on your computer's hard drive, uploading is a piece of cake.
- Make sure your video is 100 MB or less by right clicking the file and selecting "Properties."
- You can also check your video's format in the Properties screen. Our accepted formats are MPEG (.mpg), QuickTime (.mov), AVI (.avi), Windows Media (.wmv), Flash Video (.flv) and Real Media (.rm).
- In the video upload screen, click "Browse" to find the video on your hard drive.
- Enter in a title and description and hit "Upload."
- It will probably take a few minutes for your video to upload and then it will be put into a queue to be approved. We like to take a look at all our video content to make sure no one's being naughty. After it's approved, it will be available in your "Live Videos" section.

- You can add featured photos and videos by clicking the "Edit" icon in the top right corner of the desired module on your profile page. On the "Manage Photos/Videos" page, the top box is for featured content, while the lower box displays all of the content uploaded to your profile. To remove featured photos or videos, click the "remove" link below the featured content in your "Manage Photos/Videos" page.
- What are those icons in the upper right corner of some of the modules on my profile? Why don't they all have the icons?
-
Most of the modules on your myNBC profile allow you to edit what's displayed there, like featured photos and videos, blogs, and comments. These modules can also be moved around and arranged on your page to suit your tastes. The icon on the far right (that looks like pen and paper) is the "Edit" button, which allows you to update the content that appears in that module. The icon to its left (that looks like four arrows) is the "Move" icon. You can click the Move button and drag the module anywhere on your profile page.
Modules that do not have these buttons are either not editable (e.g. What's New?) or unmovable (e.g. About Me).
- What's that box below the ad in the right column of my profile? Can I get rid of it?
- That box under the ad is a rotating content module that displays featured NBC content throughout all NBC Universal websites. And no, you cannot remove it.
- What if I want to change the style of my profile?
- You can update the style on your profile page by clicking the "Styles" link in the myPROFILE section of the myNBC menubar at the top of the screen. There are several styles, or templates, based on NBC shows that are available for your page, and you can change them as often as you'd like.
- I changed the style and now there's an extra widget on my profile... how did that happen?
- Every show style comes with a show-related video widget. If you'd like to remove the widget from your profile, just click the "widgets" link in the myMEDIA section of the myNBC menubar at the top of the screen.
- How do I view my profile as other people see it?

- How do I add someone to myNetwork if I'm already looking at their profile?
- In the "About Me" section of a user's profile, under his/her avatar, you will find an "Add this member" link. Clicking that link will send a contact request notification to the user, at which point the user you wish to friend will either accept or decline. Once accepted, the user will appear in your network.
- How can I tell if someone wants to add me as a contact?
- Friend request notifications appear in your messages inbox under the "Friend Request" tab. League Information
- What are personal goals?
- Your personal goals module is a place for you to keep track of your own weight-loss and lifestyle goals. The module works like any text editor, and you can add and remove goals as necessary. Your personal goals are not tied to the League challenges in any way.
- What's the deal with teams?
-
The league commissioner will occasionally set up teams. It's just another way to group people so that they can interact. Also, in addition to the League-down challenges, team leaders can issue challenges to their team members. You can join a team if you want, but don't feel like you have to. You do not have to be on a team to complete the league challenges or vie for a spot on the leaderboard.
More team-related information is on the way, so check back to the site and the message boards for updates.
- Can users issue challenges to each other?
- Yes! Right now we're in the process of launching a challenge wizard, which will enable user-to-user challenges. When it's up and running, you'll be able to issue challenges to your contacts and track their progress.
- How do I keep track of the challenges I've started or completed?
- Click the "Challenges" tab at the top of the screen. If you're logged in, this will take you to your challenges pages where you can view new challenges and track your progress on the ones you've already accepted.
- What do I earn points for?
- The short answer is: everything. You earn points for completing a challenge, uploading photos, posting comments pretty much all activity on the site earns you points. Poke around and try out different areas of the site to see what all the different activities yield. (We don't want to just give it away!)
- What do I do with my points?
-
For right now, points earn you a spot on the leaderboard. In time, you'll be able to trade in your points for goodies on the site.
Check back to the site and message boards for an update on points.
- How do you determine the calorie deficit for my weight-loss goal?
-
Creating a calorie deficit in your diet can help you lose fat. A calorie deficit simply means that you burn more than you intake. According to the National Institutes of Health,* it takes a deficit of 3,500 calories to burn a pound of fat. To figure out the calorie deficit for your total weight loss, we take the pounds you want to lose and multiply it by 3,500. For example, if you are 10 pounds from your weight-loss goal, that would equal a 35,000 calorie deficit to burn those 10 pounds of fat. It's impossible to come close to meeting your deficit in a day or even a week, but it will help you determine how many calories you need burn each day to hit your goal in time.
